untitled project | Portrait Series
This project was created to bring awareness to visual literacy. When the media continues to cover women with makeup and synthetics, unrealistic societal beauty standards are created. “Bared” sets a new standard in media with beauty portraits featuring a diverse group of women without makeup.
Beauty shouldn’t be defined by a set of standards and all women need a covergirl that looks like them. When the media shows women with makeup it leaves women with the message that we are naturally flawed. We need to be improved. We aren’t perfect.
The goal isn’t to remove makeup entirely from society, rather to remove the illusion that women have a choice. Equality is important in visual literacy and media should be presenting both genders with and without makeup as a new paradigm. Part two of this project is set to start shooting in 2020 and features men wearing makeup.
